Ok, so this IS a Disney blog and it’s not exactly Disney news, but it is interesting news.
Various sources (including Entertainment Weekly) started reporting last night that Warner Brothers will be waving a magic wand over the entire Harry Potter film series on home video and making them disappear on December 29th.
This includes DVD, Blu-ray and even box sets of all the movies in the series. Oh, and the worst part? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 releases on home video on November 11th. So, that gives everyone a measly 49 days (during the Holiday shopping season) to pick up the latest HP movie.
The Harry Potter franchise has netted $12.1 billion (that’s right…BILLION) for Warner Brothers since 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and just over $5 billion of that came from the home video and video game releases.
So, what’s your take on this?
Do you think that other studios will jump on the bandwagon and follow suit, or is Warner Brothers making a critical mistake here?
