New on Blu-ray and DVD today is Disney’s “Tangled”.
Tangled is the story of Rapunzel. Kidnapped from her parents (the King and Queen) and locked away in a tower by the evil Mother Gothel for the magical powers that her hair posesses. Gothel would keep Rapunzel hidden away from the rest of the world, using Rapunzel’s hair to keep her young and beautiful.
And then there’s the story of Flynn “Eugene” Rider…
Flynn’s a thief who makes off with the tiara of the lost princess. Inadvertently making his way to the tower where Mother Gothel has her stashed. Rapunzel has always wanted to get out of the tower to see the floating lights that happen once a year on her birthday. Flynn (reluctantly) strikes up a bargain with her to take her in exchange for the tiara that she has secretly hidden after she knocked him out a few times with a frying pan.
I won’t spoil it any more for you because it’s a cute story and definitely one worth adding to your collection.
Tangled marks Disney’s 50th animated feature-length film and there’s a neat bonus feature (that was originally posted on YouTube) that has a “count up” through all of Disney’s 50 animated films. Disney Animation still has the video up on YouTube if you want to see it, check out the article I posted back in November about it.
There’s a formula to these movies that still works today. In many ways, I see a lot of parallels between Tangled and Aladdin (you will too now that I’ve said that).
There’s not too much in the way of bonus features on this one, but they’re definitely work a watch. Especially the deleted scenes and alternate openings for the film.
The quality on the Blu-ray copy is amazing, as always. But you also have to take into account that this is a newer release that was created in a digital format, so you should expect excellent quality on this one.
