Big comic book news today as Marvel has unveiled some art that shows us a new Thor is on her way soon. That’s right, Thor’s a woman!
It’s not Thor reincarnated or “Lady Thor” or anything silly like that. Thor Odinson has done something to fall out of favor and will be now wielding an axe and not his familiar hammer.
The inscription on Mjölnir (Thor’s Hammer) reads as follows, “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor” Apparently it’s a he or she that can be worthy, as Marvel will show us this fall.
I don’t know why this was presented on “The View” this morning other than the fact that Disney owns both ABC and Marvel. After recent shakeups with who remains to host The View (which only happened a few weeks ago) this must be a play to improve viewership/ratings for the show.
While Chris Hemsworth isn’t under contract to reprise his role as the big screen version of Thor, this may lead to rumors that we may see the female Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’d just like to point out that before the rumors start floating around, remember that the timeline in Marvel comics is different from that of the MCU and that it took Thor (Odinson) a long time to get to the events that led up to this in the comics.
Avengers Director, Joss Whedon, has taken to Twitter to give his two cents worth:
