Proving that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or MCU) is in a state of constant flux, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 Director James Gunn just made a huge announcement about the Guardians future. About a month ago, it was unknown if there would be a GOTG 3. More specifically, as the rumors started swirling that there would be a GOTG 3, Gunn stated that he wasn’t sure if he’d return to helm it.
“I’m just trying to figure out what I’m going to do with the next three years of my life. I love making big movies, that’s my thing. It’s not about wanting to go back and tell the story of a diseased toe for $5,000. I would like to make another big movie,” Gunn told Yahoo in an interview.
Now it looks like all that is about to change. Gunn just announced to fans via Facebook that he would be returning to write and direct a third installment of the series.
So, yes, I’m returning to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the end, my love for Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Star-Lord, Yondu, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula – and some of the other forthcoming heroes – goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine, and I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit. And, like in both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, we will work on creating the story that goes beyond what you expect.
So not only do we now have official confirmation that GOTG 3 is happening, but also that Gunn will be returning as Writer and Director.
