Sad news today as we hear that the voice (both singing and speaking) of Disney’s animated Cinderella has passed away at the age of 81.  Woods died of causes related to Alzheimer’s disease Thursday at a nursing and rehabilitation center in Canoga Park, California.

Woods got the role of Cinderella at the age of 18.  At the time, she was a singer on the radio when songwriters Jerry Livingston and Mack David (friends of hers) asked her to record a “demo” of a couple of songs they had written for an upcoming Disney animated feature.  They recorded the songs ‘Bibbidi-Bobbidi Boo,’ ‘So This Is Love,’ and ‘A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes,’ in a studio with just Woods and a piano to accompany her.  Two days later Woods got a call from Walt Disney asking her to come in for an interview.  The two talked and Walt asked her “How would you like to play Cinderella?”  Woods had no idea at the time that Walt had already auditioned over 300 singers for the role.  Since that moment, she never hesitated to do a favor for a friend.
