Nominations were announced yesterday for the upcoming Golden Globe awards and there’s an interesting twist in two of the categories.

First, here’s the Disney breakdown of nominations:

Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical
Alice in Wonderland

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical
Johnny Depp – Alice in Wonderland

Best Animated Feature Film
Toy Story 3

Best Original Score – Motion Picture
Danny Elfman – Alice in Wonderland

So, Alice in Wonderland is nominated in three categories for this year and Alice’s Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) is nominated for two different films in the “Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical” category!

Depp had this to say about his double nomination… “One nomination would of course be a great honor, but two, is simply astonishing.  I am floored, truly, by the HFPA’s kindness and generosity.  I wish to thank them dearly, as well as all those many wonderful souls who made the films in question possible.  My deepest gratitude and respect goes out to you all.”

Also among the interesting possibilities is that Disney has two entries in the “Best Animated Feature Film” category, 2010’s summer blockbuster “Toy Story 3” and last month’s “Tangled”.

The 68th Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast nationwide live on NBC, in HD, Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 (PST)/8:00-11:00 (EST) from the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
