Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers looks to be headed for a big screen adventure.  The animated cartoon was part of “The Disney Afternoon”, a 2 hour programming block of 30-minute Disney animated shows, back in the nineties.

The Hollywood Reporter announced yesterday that Robert Rugan’s pitch to make a Rescue Rangers movie has been green-lighted by Disney.  Mandeville films (responsible for Disney’s Muppets films) is slated to produce.  Rugan plans to bring us an origin story with his film.  In the original show, Chip ‘n Dale (along with Monty, Zipper and Gadget) were all part of a detective agency that would take on cases that were too small for the police.

Now before everyone gets too excited, here’s the part that most of you aren’t gonna like.

The Rescue Rangers movie will be a combination of live-action and cg animation.

Don’t let it be said that Disney can’t bring us a great cg movie, as “Tangled” and “Frozen” have proven, but I think it’s a mistake to take one of their beloved properties and make them computer animated in a live-action world.  I’d love to be proven wrong that this could work, but I think it’s a bad decision on the part of Disney to agree to this.
