Just in time for San Diego Comic-Con 2012 (and I’ll tell you why in a minute) the Second Screen App for Marvel’s “The Avengers” has been released.

Typically, past Second Screen apps have coincided with a home video release date.  The Avengers is still over 2 months away from home video release.  But with Comic-Con just around the corner, there will be an “event” that the app will be needed for.  That may also explain why a Second Screen app is available for the first time for iPhone.

If you haven’t yet heard about the “Item 47” event (that’s mentioned below) and you’re going to Comic-Con, listen up!  The app will be used to help discover clues, the clues will lead you to where the “Item 47” event will be.  The reward: A special screening of the Marvel short film “Item 47”.  This film directly ties into The Avengers movie.  If you want to read more about it, click this link and EW’s Anthony Breznican will tell you all about it.
