Happy 40th Earth Day everyone!

In celebration, Disney had local school children release 140,000 beneficial insects into the environment at Disney’s California Adventure park earlier today.  The bug release is part of a integrated pest-management program that has been in effect at the parks for the last 12 years.  Releasing beneficial insects (like the ladybugs that were given to the kids today) help to destroy the harmful ones and allows the flowers and plant life around the Disney parks to prosper.

Disney routinely releases beneficial insects into their theme parks throughout the year but wanted to do something special for the 40th year of Earth Day celebrations by involving the school children in the process.

Appropriately, the ladybugs that the kids released were in the “Bug’s Land” section of DCA.  I’m sure Francis would be proud!
