Now available for the first time on Blu-ray is Disney’s animated classic “Lady and the Tramp”.  It’s a combo pack, so you get a DVD copy too, but this is the first time that the film has had a Blu-ray HD release in Disney’s Platinum Edition.  For those who just want a DVD copy, a standalone 1-disc DVD edition will also be available on March 27, 2012

Lady and the Tramp was Disney’s 15th animated feature and was originally released in theaters on June 22, 1955.  This is pretty amazing considering that Walt Disney was working on this film and also his first theme park simultaneously.  Disneyland’s grand opening was June 17, 1955, a mere 5 days before Lady and the Tramp made its theatrical debut.

I picked up the remastered DVD release (Platinum Edition) when it came out six years ago, but for those wanting to upgrade their movie collection to Blu-ray, it’s definitely worth it!

Sound and picture on the Blu-ray are great!  Aside from the style, it’s hard to believe that you’re looking at animation that’s 57 years old.  The coloring is fantastic!

Film Synopsis:
A classic love story unfolds in the best Disney tradition as a lovely young pedigreed cocker spaniel named Lady, who lives a pampered life, finds herself falling romantically for Tramp, an amorous street-smart pooch without prospects. Although they have fun together on several dates, including a sentimental spaghetti dinner by moonlight at Tony’s restaurant, their relationship is strained not only by Lady’s loyalty to her human family and their newborn baby, but by Tramp’s devil-may-care attitude that eventually gets Lady in trouble and tossed into the dog pound. However, good-hearted Tramp redeems himself by saving the baby from potential harm and thus wins Lady’s love and the affection of her human family.
