The live panel for the new Star Wars movie at Star Wars Celebration just wrapped up in Chicago.  Stephen Colbert hosted the panel along with guests Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and Star Wars: Episode IX director JJ Abrams. Also in attendance were Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, Kelly Marie Tran, Billy Dee Williams, John Boyega, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Joonas Suotamo, BB-8, and R2-D2.

While Abrams and the cast were being very careful not to give away too much in the way of spoilers, we did find out a few things.

1. Lando Calrissian is back!

Billy Dee Williams was there not just because it was a Star Wars panel.  This was a panel for the new movie and he’s there because Lando will be in the new film!  We also got to see Lando piloting the Millenium Falcon in the new teaser trailer that was shown at the end of the panel.

2.  Rose Tico will be back and Kelly Marie Tran got a standing ovation from those in attendance that brought her to tears!

Tran was an unfortunate victim of body shaming on social media and had previously deleted all her posts from Instagram due to months of harassment she has received for her character Rose in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.  It was asked by Colbert during the panel if Rose and Finn are together or if they even kiss again in the new movie.  All Tran would say is that Finn, much like John Boyega, is one of the most eligible bachelors around.

3.  BB-8 has a new droid friend.

Introduced to the audience was a new droid.  His name sounds like “Dio” but knowing how droid naming designations have been throughout the Star Wars saga, I’d have to say it’s probably D-O
Abrams also showed some of the concept designs for the new droid.  One of them looks a lot like K-9 from the Doctor Who series (I can see why they didn’t go with that one).

4.  Finn is now an “official” member of the resistance.

John Boyega revealed to us that Finn is now an official member of the Resistance.  We even got to see a photo of his new duds! I wonder if Poe ever got his jacket back?

5.  Luke’s (now Rey’s) lightsaber still “lives”.

That’s the term Daisy Ridley used when asked about the lightsaber.  It still lives. And we get to see it in the new trailer, too.

You can stream the replay of the panel over at the Star Wars Celebration website.

6.  The full title will be Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

This raises so many questions.  Mostly, which Skywalker are we referring to?  There have been rumors about a retcon on certain events from the last Star Wars film (and I won’t give anything away if you haven’t seen it yet) but they may be just that, rumors.  Still, it makes you wonder, though.

7.  We know the title because we now have the first teaser trailer.

So what are your thoughts?  Are you excited about the new Star Wars movie now that we’ve actually seen something for it?  Is the title confusing to you, or did it just confirm your theories?
