Fresh on the heels of an announcement of a new Thor, Marvel’s Joe Quesada unveiled that Steve Rogers will be passing the mantle of Captain America to another.

Sadly, Stephen Colbert was a bit disappointed when he found out that he would not be the new Captain America.  After all, who better to represent our great nation that the patriotic Colbert?  A man who has proudly displayed a replica of Cap’s shield on his show’s set since 2007.

Sam Wilson, a.k.a. The Falcon, will be taking Rogers’ place as the new Captain America this fall.

Quesada clarified that this only affects the Marvel comics and not the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Colbert also pointed out the fact to Quesada that if Falcon was becoming the new Cap, then wouldn’t we need a new Falcon?  Quesada then told Colbert that the position was open and presented Stephen with a comic rendering of himself as the new Falcon.
