THR confirmed this morning that actor Josh Brolin will be playing Cable in the Deadpool sequel slated for release sometime in 2018.  While Deadpool may be a Fox Studios film, the character is Marvel’s and since Disney owns Marvel, it’s news.

Cable was teased in a post-credits (Ferris Bueller-esque) scene at the end of 2016’s Deadpool, where Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool announced that the sequel would have Cable.

Cable is basically a time traveling warrior from the future.  The leader of X-Force (like a future version of X-Men) and is the son of original X-Men member Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey).  Cable has had run-ins with Deadpool before (in comics and videogames) and for some reason (probably comedy) always seems to have some world/galaxy/universe saving mission that only Deadpool can handle.  Yeah, we’re just gonna go with comedy on that one.

Brolin will also be playing another Marvel Character, Thanos, in Avengers: Infinity War.  Infinity war is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or MCU for short) which is Marvel Studios/Disney owned.  So, Brolin gets to play 2 different Marvel characters in 2 franchises next year!

This will mark the third time that Brolin has played a character that has comic book origins.  We’ve already named two of them here for you.  Who can guess the third?
