For those not in the know, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy opened in theaters this past weekend.  Not only did it do well at the box office, it shattered the previous record for opening weekend (previously $69.3 million belonging to 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum) and went on to earn $94.3 million.

With a sequel already greenlit, in development and announced a week before opening, at San Diego Comic-Con, it’s a safe bet that someone knew in advance that it was going to perform well.

Time will tell if it will remain strong as it goes up against Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in its second weekend at the box office.
